Program Description:
This unique program introduces students to critical issues in contemporary Germany, such as culture, history, identity, and citizenship, with particular focus on Berlin. The program is divided into two sessions and targets students with either no background in German language or those having completed the German Department’s first-year sequence. Organized excursions will take students to major historical and cultural sites in Berlin and other cities.

- Session One:
- German Language I (beginner or intermediate levels)
Choose one course from:
- Old & New: Discovering German History in Berlin
- Music History through the lens of Berlin 1800-2000 - Session Two:
- German Language II
Choose one course from:
- Contemporary Music Culture in Germany
- Berlin Wall and European Integration
- Inter-Religious and Inter-Cultural Dialogues in Germany - Alternative track in Jewish Studies possible
Program Costs:
2012 Estimated Program Fee: $7,500, includes tuition, program-related excursions, housing, and a public transportation pass. Students should also budget approximately $900 in fees (Study Abroad Administrative Fee for NU students and HTH insurance), about $1,500 for international airfare, and approximately $2,600 for personal expenses, including meals, non-program transportation, personal travel, and miscellaneous expenses.
